Today is one of the highlights of the vintage festival, and our last event of this year in the Barossa, which is the Barossa Wine Chapters Auction (and lunch). We had been to this event 4 years ago but it was in quite a different format, including being a lunch. We take a taxi there again to Chateau Tanunda, a different location from last time. When we arrive there is an immediate treat – lots of oysters and a variety of Rieslings.
We have to wait awhile before we can be seated so have to console ourselves with sparking burgundy while we wait. They set-up a large number of glasses on the bar in the earlier photo.
When we go in, things are quite different from the last time. Each table has representatives from a winery who bring a number of their wines to have with the lunch and the auction. We were lucky enough to have the founders and staff from Bethany Wines.
We soon ran out of wine but one of the guys drove back to the winery and brought a lot more back.
The auction had begun and it too was different from last time. It was put on by Langtons Auctioneers and one had to register in advance with a credit card to prevent the situation that happened four years ago when this guy had the winning bids for many wines but had no money to pay for it. I already had a Langtons account but it really did not make any difference as there were too many very wealthy visitors from China who bid up to very high prices.
Today was a good one with a few downs but still enjoyable. We call it a day and catch a taxi back home. Again I do not recall any other activities that day. We have to leave the Barossa tomorrow.
