Tuesday, 27 June, 2017 – Weather Nice
Julie is up early and decides to walk into La Morra. It is quite a walk with steep hills. Some photos from the town.
Julie returns from her wander and we go down for breakfast.
Then it is pack and get on the bus. Say goodbye to Sweet Jane and Fluffy. On our way to France. Drive by Turin. We stop before the border for a loo and food break. There is the usual chaos within as a platoon from the Italian army is ahead of us. I get a cheese burger and Julie 2 coffees. Back on the bus, through some long tunnels and into France. No border stop or checks at all. We are climbing in the French Alps. We have clear directions to turn off at Stop 38 but the driver’s GPS says 36. We drive for a while and turn around because we have gone the wrong way. We are on the right track but there is a road limit that our bus exceeds. So back down further and go to Stop 38. We follow the original directions but even then there are some turn decisions. Graeme is on the ball with his GPS and we get to destination way up the hill, near La Lechere village. We meet our travel agent, Kate Stedman there as well as our Hosts.
There are welcoming drinks outside next to a stream pouring into a sink. We unload the bags and discover that we are broken up into several groups for accommodation, some as far away as 5 KM. We go to our place which is called a Gite. It is in essence an old style ski lodge. The Bedroom has space for 10 sleepers.
The place is actually quite useful for us as Julie has plenty of room for her studies and me for Blogging. There is one major problem, no Internet.
In the evening we go over to the main lodge. This is an old barn which they have converted to a multi-story B&B. There is a lot of elaborate work although some say there were some poor design decisions.
Dining is split into two halves. We get the basement version. The meal is Raclette which is a well known melting cheese.
With the raclette heater, where you slide your tray in containing cheese. There is also cold meats and boiled potatoes which can also be put in the tray and heated. Typical ski lodge meal.
Things degenerate from there. Julie brings more wine over which gets quickly consumed. We depart after a while and apparently an “opera” is created with Susan and Chris Leddy which ends with Toto “killing” Susan. Good night.
