Sunday, 20 April
We go back into the city for some breakfast. Because it is Easter Sunday, a lot of places are closed. Still we find an appropriate diner.
The major point of the next few days is to tour some of the Civil War battlegrounds surrounding Washington DC. Because mostly all you can see, other than plaques and statues, is fields where the battle raged, there are few photos. Generally, we found that the videos they show at the tourist centres were the best part. For more info about Gettysburg, refer to the following website: http://www.nps.gov/gett/planyourvisit/index.htm
One special thing at the Gettysburg Tourist Center was the 360 degree panoramic painting of the battle.
After our tour, we go back to Stefani’s farm to return the CD of the Gettysburg tour.
After saying goodbye, we are on the road again. We go to Harper’s Ferry which is quite an interesting place with John Brown’s raid that was a trigger for the Civil War and the joining of two massive rivers that were a part of the race between the railroad and the waterways for supremacy of the transport to the West. The railroad won. There have been several major floods in Harper’s Ferry, I took the following picture of the high water marks which are on a building in town. These floods were amazing.

We also go to Antietam which is yet another important Battlefield. If I had had any sense we would have gone to Antietam before Harpers Ferry. Oh well.

We finally go to Front Royal, Virginia, Here we are staying at a very impressive house – refer to this AirBnB link:

The owner, Tareq, has just arrived back from Texas. He shows us around the place which is even more impressive than the pictures on the website.
We had not had anything to eat after the diner so are looking forward to some chow. Tarq recommends a Thai restaurant in town so we go there. For much of the time, we are the only table there. The food is pretty good.
We go back to our home and spend some time playing pinball etc. Lovely day.
