Saturday, 22 September, 2018 – Day 1 in Gothenburg

We are up early in the apartment. More laundry was done by the kids and serious packing for all. I finished my burrito from the other night, turned out to be a big bargain.

Eventually we head to the station. Ryan, Tanika and I took the tram with the 4 heavy suitcases while Julie dragged Tanika’s wheeled hand luggage to the station. This worked well and we had a fair bit of time left before we were to board the train to Malmo. We settled the cases into an area at the back of a coffee shop. Ryan and Tanika went for a walk, while Julie went out to buy wine. Eventually it was time to board. There were no reserved seats on this train and it was quite a bun fight getting on with the luggage, stashing the luggage and finding seats. We were pretty much separated but eventually got there.

In Malmo, we transferred to another train. We were in first class and had reserved seats. Sadly, they were in car 2, and there was no car 2. So we had to scramble around with the other customers to get seats which we finally did.

When we arrived in Malmo, we had to transfer to another train. This time we were in first class and had reserved seats. Sadly, the reserved seats were in Carriage 2, and there was no carriage 2 so there was another bun fight sorting out seats with the other passengers.

It is a very old Hotel, circa 1880s I think.

The mattress was very, very old and shows the problem that has occurred over the years where a valley is created from all of the businessmen sleeping in the middle of the bed. Please replace the mattresses, Hotel.

We did not know the town at all so decided to eat in the Hotel restaurant.

We noticed that prices were much cheaper in Sweden than they had been in Denmark, even with the Hotel mark-up.

So it was an early bed time at the end of an interesting day with ups and downs.
