Sunday 31 August – The Smith

Another first, I have put a Melbourne event here in the main Blog instead of in one of the other pages. Why? Because the event was quite good and I felt like it. As it was, we did not know what to expect other than having seen the menu, so we rocked up any way.

As we arrive in a private room upstairs, we meet the proprietor, Martin Peston, who runs a couple of websites:

http://www.winetastingevents.com.au/
http://www.topaustralianwines.com.au

and puts on frequent special lunches / dinners with Australian wines. In this case, the wines are specials from his own collection “The Vault”.

From now on, and the menu photo too, the pictures mostly come from the professional photographer, Marc Verna, used by Martin:

Well, that was it. A very good and interesting line-up of wines, most of which I had not heard of before. We will go to more of Martin’s feasts, in fact we are scheduled to go to a Yum Cha and Wine at David’s restaurant on 13 September.

Follow-up: we did indeed go to the Yum Cha and Shiraz lunch at Davids and it was very good with lots of food and wine. I did not take any photos but if I receive some from Martin / Mark I will add them in, and here they are:

It was good food, good wine and a good day. It must have been successful as Martin sold a lot of wine that day. Martin does a lot of events at David’s but we will probably wait for the Yum Cha and Riesling one scheduled next year.
